BSL-3 Core Facility Training

Researchers planning to start new research project inside NUS Medicine BSL-3 Core Facility (facility users) need to undergo mandatory BSL-3 specific trainings and demonstrate proficiency in standard microbiological techniques, and practices specific to the facility and their research projects. The BSL-3 training includes both classroom-based instructions and several hours (30-32 hours) of hands-on experience. The details of the ‘core’ and ‘elective’ modules are given in the below flow chart.

Upon completion of the relevant training modules, users must pass a certification examination to ensure that they are competent in safe use of the facility as well as in safe handling and management of infectious materials in the BSL-3 facility. After the initial training and certification, all BSL-3 users also must undergo regular refresher training each year as recommended by the facility operations team.
