Overview of MDG5600 – Industrial Experiential Internship (IEI) Programme
Internships are an essential platform to gain experiential skills to be Future Ready for careers in an increasingly competitive employment landscape.
The Industrial Experiential Internship (IEI) programme aims to provide PhD graduate research students increased opportunities of completing internships before graduation. The IEI programme is overseen by the NUS Medicine Graduate Programme Committee as well as the industry supervisor appointed by IEI partner organizations. IEI positions are hosted by research entities within NUS as well as a range of external partner organizations.
Full time PhD local students who have passed their PhD Qualifying Examination (PQE) would be eligible to embark on the Experiential Internship for a minimum duration of 13 weeks and up to 6 months. Eligible students would be given up to 6 months of stipend extension and tuition fee funding.
Full time international PhD students may also apply. However, no scholarship extensions are provided and hours worked are subject to MOM guidelines. Read more here: https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/work-pass-exemption-for-foreign-students
Students who wish to embark on the IEI programme are required to obtain the approval of their Thesis Advisor.
Students will be assessed based on their written report submitted by the end of the internship.
Upon completion of the IEI programme, students will be given 4 Units for the course MDG5600 – Industry Experiential Internship. MDG5600 is graded on a CS/CU (Completed Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory basis.

To apply for an IEI position, please complete the application form in the email circular. Candidates would be evaluated on their relevant skills, working experience and any awards received during their candidature.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email for interviews by NUS Medicine and the IEI partner organization. Successful candidates will be notified by email after the selection process has concluded.
