Eve Wang Chao, PhD student of Dr Alan Prem Kumar’s group, was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the McDonnell International Scholars Academy Symposium following her achievement as the 1st runner up of the annual NUS Three Minute Thesis (3MT).

In this competition, competitors have to send in a self-recorded video explaining their research topic to a general audience in three minutes. Eve’s video entry was selected as one of the 16 international finalists to present at the symposium which took place in Brisbane, Australia.

In this highly competitive international competition, she presented her PhD project in front of live audiences and judges. Her work described the use of DDX20 as a surrogate marker and her discovery that the triple breast cancers are more sensitive to stain treatment than the other subtypes of breast cancers. This hints that statin has potential to be beneficial for the treatment of triple negative breast cancers. Her project was categorised under Population Aging and Global Health, one of the 4 themes outlined by the symposium.

Out of the 5 finalists selected under her category, the majority of the audience voted for her to win the People’s Choice Award.

Congratulations to Eve for her achievements!
