Professor Halliwell is one of the world’s most highly-cited researchers in his field – which includes Biology and Biochemistry, Neuroscience and Behaviour. His research works in exploring the role of antioxidants and free radicals in human health, nutrition and disease, is of great impact, and he has made outstanding contributions to the development of research landscape in Singapore. He helms the University’s research agenda, promoting a broad base of high-impact research from which several peaks of excellence have been achieved. In the last 15 years he has been at the University, he has built up the NUS research structure and has overseen the growth of competitive research funding in NUS, which has tripled over the years and is now over $500 million per year worth of investments.

Dr Khor Chiea Chuen, Department of Ophthalmology
Dr Khor was recognised for his research on genetics and heredity, particularly in eye-related traits and infectious disease. His research spans many areas of human genetics across diverse human traits and disease conditions, with the long term goal of translating genetic findings into predictive medicine to improve healthcare in Singapore.
