We are pleased to congratulate Prof Chan Yan Yee, Mark on his promotion from Associate Professor to full Professor, with effect from 1 July 2026.
An internationally recognised interventional cardiologist and clinician-scientist, Prof Chan from the Department of Medicine at NUS Medicine, has made significant contributions to advancing the understanding and treatment of acute coronary syndromes. His translational research spans the full spectrum of cardiovascular medicine, from pre-clinical biomarker and drug discovery to epidemiological studies, multinational clinical trials, and innovative models of healthcare delivery.
Prof Chan’s work has played a pivotal role in defining the epidemiology, management, and outcomes of acute myocardial infarction in Singapore. He led the IMMACULATE randomised clinical trial, which demonstrated the feasibility of remotely managing patients following a heart attack through an allied health-led care model. Building on these findings, he developed and currently leads AMI-HOPE, a technology-enabled programme that enhances post-discharge care and supports patients across Singapore’s three healthcare clusters.
As Overall Principal Investigator of the multinational PASSIVATE randomised clinical trial, Prof Chan evaluated a novel anti-inflammatory therapy for patients recovering from acute myocardial infarction. His laboratory has also contributed to the discovery of novel antithrombotic compounds and advanced cardiovascular biomarker research. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as proteomics, lipidomics, and single-cell transcriptomics, his team seeks to improve the prediction, prevention, and understanding of heart failure following myocardial infarction.
As a prolific researcher, Prof Chan has authored approximately 400 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals, including JAMA, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, JAMA Cardiology, and Nature Communications. His work has been widely cited and recognised globally, earning him a place on the Stanford University-Scopus list of the world’s top 2% of scientists in 2025.
Beyond his research achievements, Prof Chan is a dedicated educator and mentor. He has guided successive generations of cardiologists, many of whom have gone on to receive prestigious national awards and international recognition. His educational philosophy is rooted in experiential learning, using every patient encounter and clinical procedure as an opportunity to cultivate thoughtful, evidence-based clinicians.
Through his exemplary contributions to translational research, clinical care, education, and national leadership, Prof Chan continues to shape the future of cardiovascular medicine. His unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of cardiologist-scientists reflects his vision of developing clinicians who are not only outstanding practitioners but also impactful researchers.
