Chronic illness: Digital-Mindfulness for cancer survivors

Assoc Prof Piyanee Yobas’s research focuses on the development and implementation of psychological interventions and mindfulness-based interventions. She has been awarded multiple grants to support her research.

In this episode, Assoc Prof Yobas shares about the development and delivery of a digital mindfulness programme for cancer survivors. Mindfulness refers to paying attention to the current moment with a non-judgemental attitude. Research revealed that mindfulness is linked with better psychological well-being and quality of life.

Initiated by Prof Emily Ang, former Head of the Alice Lee Centre of Nursing Studies, the programme was named MindCAN and lasted four weeks. The programme guided participants on the principles of mindfulness and how to practice mindfulness to manage stress, unpleasant emotions, and unhealthful thoughts. Assoc Prof Yobas subsequently expanded the programme into an eight-week programme after receiving positive feedback from the first run.
