Concepts related to death, dying and end-of-life have evolved throughout the years. For many older adults, end-of-life care is a gradual process requiring support to accept and prepare for a “good death.”

Therefore, perspectives on end-of-life care need to be reviewed in response to demographic and health care trends. As many factors influence the way people approach death and dying, more evidence-based interventions need to be explored to provide supportive care for older adults during life-limiting conditions and to prepare them for a dignified death.
