A study led by NUS Medicine graduate student Diong Huay Ting and Professor William Hal Martin, Director of the Master of Science (Audiology) programme at NUS Medicine, discovered that Singapore’s daily average outdoor sound level is 69.4 decibels. This is 2.4 decibels higher than the National Environmental Agency’s recommendation. The study also found the nosiest areas of Singapore are Serangoon, Orchard and Outram, and that 27 percent of the outdoor places they monitored are exposed to 70 decibels.
