Evelyn Law Chung Ning Promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Evelyn Law Chung Ning from the Department of Paediatrics, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine on her promotion to Associate Professor, effective 1 January 2026.
An internationally recognised clinician-scientist, Assoc Prof Law has advanced understanding of how early-life experiences influence children’s brain development, learning and long-term health outcomes. As Singapore’s only clinician with Subspecialty Board Certification in Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics, she has established a distinctive research programme that integrates developmental neuroscience, population health and clinical paediatrics to improve developmental outcomes for children.
Her research focuses on the biological, social and environmental determinants of paediatric brain health, with particular emphasis on maternal mental health, early childhood experiences, screen use and caregiver-child interactions. By combining population birth cohorts with advanced neuroscience techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG), she has identified early markers of developmental vulnerability and translated these findings into interventions that promote healthy child development. Her work has also informed national child health strategies, including Singapore’s National Guidance on Screen Use in Children.
Since joining NUS, Assoc Prof Law has built a highly successful research programme and secured numerous competitive national research grants, including the National Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist Award in Health Promotion, Preventive Health, Population Health and Health Services Research. She has published extensively in leading international journals, including JAMA Pediatrics, The Lancet Psychiatry, Psychological Medicine, Pediatrics, and Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences.
Among her notable achievements is directing the cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessments of children in the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) study. Through this work, she has generated a rich longitudinal resource that has contributed substantially to the wider research community and advanced understanding of child development and population health.
Beyond her research accomplishments, Assoc Prof Law is a dedicated educator and mentor. She conceptualised the medical school’s current neurodevelopment teaching framework and serves as Director of the Clinical Fellowship in Neurodevelopment and Behavioural Paediatrics, leading a programme accredited by the Singapore Medical Council to train regional specialists from Southeast Asia. She has mentored junior clinicians, medical students and graduate students, many of whom have received research awards, scholarships and academic distinctions. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation of clinician-scientists has been recognised with the Wong Hock Boon Society Outstanding Mentor Award.
Assoc Prof Law also plays an active leadership role in advancing child health beyond academia. She works closely with government agencies, educators and community organisations to translate research into policy and practice. Her contributions have helped shape national initiatives in early childhood development, including Grow Well SG, and strengthened Singapore’s efforts to promote healthier developmental outcomes and reduce disparities in children’s health and learning.
Through her pioneering research, clinical expertise and educational leadership, Assoc Prof Law continues to make significant contributions to paediatrics, developmental neuroscience and population health, improving the lives of children and families in Singapore and beyond.
