The Advanced Tomorrow (ATOM) Conference 2024, jointly organized by NUS Medicine and ATOM, was successfully held on 21 November at the iconic Science Museum in London. This landmark event brought together over 350 participants and speakers, including leaders from the healthcare industry, government representatives, esteemed academics, AI and technology experts, corporate executives, and medical professionals.
The conference kicked off with speeches by Dr Armen Sarkissian, co-founder of ATOM; Sir Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum Group; Dr Michael Dixon, Head of the Royal Medical Household who delivered a message of support from His Majesty King Charles III, and a recorded speech by NUS President, Professor Tan Eng Chye.
A total of 16 panel sessions were convened, 4 main panel sessions in the morning and concurrent parallel sessions in the afternoon. Just to highlight a few sessions, we had Dr William Li, a physician, scientist, and a bestselling author anchor the panel on “The Power of Your Gut”, exploring how gut health improves immunity, brain function, longevity, and disease resistance through emerging research, innovative approaches, and practical insights for better well-being and longer life.
The fireside chat session that saw a high turnout was the panel with Professor David Sinclair, a genetic professor from Harvard Medical School, and Ms Serena Poon, a longevity expert and entrepreneur, moderated by Mr Vartan Sarkissian, Co-Founder of ATOM, discussing innovative solutions for healthy aging, focusing on regenerative medicine, personalised care, and lifestyle interventions to extend health span, tackle age-related challenges, and enhance quality of life, empowering individuals to live vibrant, fulfilling lives in later years.
Another panel that touched many hearts was the Future of Healthcare Access and Resilience, moderated by Ms Joan Hoey, Director of The Economist Group’s Democracy Index, exploring strategies to optimise infrastructure, workforce, and supply chains, address inefficiencies such as hospital delays, and leverage technology for preparedness against pandemics and natural disasters, emphasising collaboration and innovation to ensure adaptable, robust healthcare systems in an unpredictable world.
Topics on Women’s Health and Healthcare Impacts by Climate, Heat, and Sustainability were among the panels for discussion. Crucial emerging topics that cannot be ignored, such as AI, social media, faith, investment, and climate, which have impacts on healthcare transformation were discussed at a panel moderated by Dr Armen Sarkisian, 4th president of Armenia, together with renowned speakers, the Rt Rev. and the Rt Hon. Lord Chartres, former Bishop of London, Mr Mo El Husseiny, Managing Partner of Ventura Capital, Mr Assaad Razzouk, Co-founder of Gurīn Energy, as well as, Professor Lim Chwee Teck, Director of NUS Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthTech).
The conference concluded successfully and was a catalyst for impactful discussions, culminating in the establishment of four ATOM Partners workgroup streams focusing on:
🔬 Gut & Health
🧠 Mind & Health
👩⚕️ Women’s Health
⏳ Measuring the Value of Care
These pillars are underpinned by critical considerations of financial investments, technology and innovation, sustainability and longevity.
This collaborative success marks a significant step toward transforming healthcare and longevity. Looking ahead, NUS and ATOM are thrilled to announce that the next ATOM Conference will take place on 15th and 16th May 2025 in Los Angeles, promising even greater innovation and collaboration.
