Congratulations to Associate Professor Lau Siew Tiang, Lydia on her promotion to Full Professor (Educator Track), effective 1 January 2026.
Prof Lau is an internationally recognised leader in nursing and health professions education. She is the first faculty member in the University’s history to be promoted to Full Professor on the Educator Track, a distinction that reflects her sustained excellence in teaching, educational leadership, and pedagogical innovation, as well as the transformative impact of her work on healthcare education at NUS and beyond.
Since joining the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies in 2011, Prof Lau has played a pivotal role in advancing nursing education at NUS through a scholarly approach that bridges educational theory and practice. She has held several key leadership appointments, including Director of Education, Director of Clinical Education, Chair of the Education Innovation Research Programme, and Faculty Lead for the Longitudinal Patient Experience (LPE) programme. Through these roles, she has made significant contributions to curriculum development, educational quality, and student learning within the University. Prof Lau is widely recognised for pioneering educational innovations that have transformed learning across Nursing, Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. Her work on the Longitudinal Patient Experience programme has advanced patient-centred and interprofessional education, while her leadership in developing the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) framework has strengthened competency-based clinical education and assessment. She has also been at the forefront of harnessing educational technology through the innovative use of immersive virtual reality to enhance healthcare training and foster lifelong learning among students and practitioners.
Beyond NUS, Prof Lau has made a profound impact on nursing education both nationally and internationally. As Co-Chair of the Ministry of Health’s national Registered Nurse Entrustable Professional Activities (RN-EPA) workgroup, she led the implementation of a common EPA framework across Singapore’s nursing institutions, helping to redefine how future nurses are trained and assessed. Her expertise is recognised internationally through invited workshops and conferences, and through her service on the International Competency-Based Health Professions Education Collaborators committee as its sole nursing representative. She has also contributed to teaching and learning across the University through her work with the NUS Teaching Academy and interdisciplinary collaborations spanning multiple disciplines.
Through her sustained contributions to teaching, educational scholarship, leadership, and innovation, Prof Lau has transformed health professions education and strengthened NUS’ reputation as a leader in healthcare education. We congratulate her on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to her continued contributions to the School, the University, and the broader healthcare community.
