Associate Professor Dinesh Kumar Srinivasan honoured with prestigious Hind Rattan Award

Assoc Prof Dinesh Kumar Srinivasan from the Department of Anatomy at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine was honoured with the prestigious Hind Rattan Award at the Constitution Club of India, Sansad Marg, New Delhi, India, on the eve of the Republic Day of India, 25 January 2024.
The Hind Rattan Award, which means ‘Jewel of India’, is one of the highest Indian diasporic awards granted every year to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) by the NRI Welfare Society of India.
The award ceremony was attended by the members of India’s Prime Minister’s Office, government officials, judges and advocates of the Supreme Court of India, international diplomats, and celebrities.
About two dozen of these awards are given annually to people chosen from the several millions of Indian diaspora members for keeping the flag of India high. Most recipients are professionals working in the academic, health, science and technology sectors and who have made an impact in their fields at the international level.
Assoc Prof Dinesh said, “I am incredibly honoured to receive the Hind Rattan Award. My sincere gratitude goes out to the NRI Welfare Society for its steadfast dedication to identifying NRIs in a variety of professions. The Society’s work is incredibly inspirational, and receiving this award inspires us to keep aiming for excellence in everything we do. I did not walk alone; I am grateful to everyone who has always been a part of my journey, from my family to friends, my colleagues and my dear students”.
Assoc Prof Dinesh is the Medical Science Lead for Cardiovascular System at NUS Medicine’s Department of Anatomy and Anatomy Lead for the Continuing Education and Training (CET) at the School. His academic life with clinical, research, teaching and mentoring in the field of medicine spans more than 25 years in India, Singapore, and the USA. He is actively involved in the development of modules, courses as well as curricula for undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents.
Recognised for his passion in teaching and mentoring, Assoc Prof Dinesh received several awards, including the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award in 2022, NUS Medicine Teaching Excellence Awards from 2019 to 2022, NUHS Teaching Excellence Award in 2020, and the Distinguished Long Service Medal from Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2015, for his contributions to education and service.
Additionally, Assoc Prof Dinesh’s research interests include higher education pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, medical education, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and nanomedicine.
He has acquired several research grants and published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in international journals including Nature, ADDR, Biomaterials, JBC, Diabetologia, FRBM, and Anatomical Sciences Education. He also serves as specialty editor in Singapore Medical Journal, a reviewer for several journals and grant funding agencies, and the Honorary Secretary of the Singapore Neuroscience Association.
