The NUS Eye Department plays a pivotal role in vision research in Singapore, within the auspices of the Singapore Eye Research Institute, with basic research and visual psychophysics laboratories, and wide national clinical eye disease databases. The scope of vision research focuses on clinical, epidemiological and translational research on diseases particularly relevant or prevalent in Asian eyes, and some broad areas include research into myopia, corneal and ocular surface disorders, adult limbal and conjunctival stem cell transplantation, Asian glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration and corneal refractive surgery.
