Mandatory for applicants whose medium of instruction is not English.

TOEFL: Minimum ≥ 580/237/85 for the paper-based, computer-based and internet-based tests respectively.

IELTS: Minimum Overall ≥ 6.5

Applicants may be required to provide a letter from your university as proof of the medium of instruction.

*Exemption: Applicants with distinctions in the Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level examination English Language Paper 1119

GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATIONS (GRE)

Submission of GRE scores is strongly encouraged for all applicants. GRE scores demonstrating strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical abilities will strengthen your application. Use University Code ‘0677’ to send the scores to NUS. No Department Code is required.

Submit separate applications through A*STAR for scholarship and the GDA3 System for admission.

Application Deadlines

There are 2 intakes per academic year, one in August and the other in January. All applications must reach the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Office by 31 December (of the previous year) for the August intake, and by 30 June (of the previous year) for the January intake.

Application Outcome

For applicants who have submitted the completed application (with all the required documents) before the respective application deadlines, their applications will be processed and they can check their application outcome via the online admission system. Only successful candidates will be notified of their application outcome via email by the following notification periods:

Please submit your application before 31 December (August intake) and 30 June (January intake) to be eligible for scholarship evaluation.

Applications that are received after the respective application deadline will be considered for the next intake.

Admission interviews are usually conducted online in March/April for the August intake and August/ September for the January intake respectively.

Applicants who applied for the research scholarship must apply by 31 December for the March/April interviews and by 30 June for the August/ September interviews.

General Information

Where can I find information on research scholarships available?

For information on the various research scholarships available, please refer to here. Application for research scholarships can be submitted together with their online admission application.

Are there any admission interviews and/or tests?

Shortlisted applicants, especially those who applied for the research scholarship, may be required to attend an online interview. The Admission interviews are usually in March/April for the August intake and August/ September for the January intake respectively.

Is it compulsory to submit the GRE scores?

Is it compulsory to submit the TOEFL/IELTS scores?

Applicants whose medium of instruction is not English are required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores as evidence of English language proficiency. Exemptions will be given to applicants with distinctions in the Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level examination English Language Paper 1119. The minimum TOEFL score required is 580/237/85 for the paper-based, computer-based and internet-based tests respectively. For IELTS, the minimum score required is 6.5.

I do not have the GRE scores but I have GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering) and GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) scores. Are GATE/GPAT scores acceptable as substitute for the GRE?

No, GRE cannot be replaced by GATE and GPAT.

Is there an age limit for admission to a graduate program?

There is no age limit. As long as you meet the minimum admission requirements, you are eligible to apply. Each application is considered on its own merits.

If I am paying for my own study, what kind of documentary proof of financial support do I have to submit?

The documentary proof of financial standing should be in the form of a bank statement for international students and for applicants working in Singapore, a copy of their recent pay slip and bank statement. If you are going to be supported by a sponsor, we will need a letter of confirmation from your sponsor (the sponsor needs to indicate his/her relationship to you), together with the financial status proof. You must have sufficient funds to support your study [estimated cost of living (S$30,000) plus Tuition Fees] for at least two years.

How do I fill up the part on my proposed research topic in the application form if I don't have a specific topic in mind?

You need not indicate a specific topic if you don't have one in mind. You should, however, indicate the research area(s) that you are interested in. You may browse through the list of research projects available here .

For the field on proposed Thesis Advisor(s), can I leave it blank as I don't know any staff in your School?

You need not indicate any proposed Thesis Advisor(s) if you are unable to at the point of application. However, it is helpful that you indicate the area of research that you are interested in to facilitate the application process. You may find more information on the research areas in NUS Medicine from the list of research projects here.

When will I know the outcome of my application?

Research applicants will be informed of the results of their applications by end of April or end of June for the August intake and by end of October or end of November for the January intake.

System Related Information

I have forgotten my application password and the answer to the secret question needed to reset the password. What should I do?

Please email your enquiry to gdhelp@nus.edu.sg with the following information:

Full Name (as submitted in the online application)
Date of Birth
Degree applied for (example: MSc/PhD)
Faculty/Department applied for (example: Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine/Biochemistry)

Upon receiving the above information, GDHelp shall then inform our IT administration to verify and retrieve the answer to your secret question so that you can proceed to reset the password.

I have submitted a request for password via the online admission system. The new password was supposed to have been emailed to me. It has been over 24 hours and I have yet to receive any email notification of the new password.

The email notification will be sent to your email address as you have indicated in the online admission system. To verify that your email address has been indicated correctly, please email your enquiry to gdhelp@nus.edu.sg with the following information:

For the field on Cumulative Average Point (CAP)/GPA, how should I fill in if my Bachelor's degree marks are all in percentages?

Since your institution has a different grading system, you may leave this field blank.

I am unable to upload all my documents as there is a limit for uploaded documents.

The total maximum upload limit is currently 2mb. Please reduce the file size if possible. Alternatively, you may email the supporting documents indicating your name and application number to medbox1@nus.edu.sg.

I am unable to make the online payment. We would advise that you check with your bank to ensure that online payment services have been made available for your account.

Payment can be made by using VISA, Mastercard, Amex, Alipay or PayNow. Alternatively, you may consider making arrangements with your family or friends who can help you make the online payment on your behalf.

How do I know if the payment is successful?

If the payment is successful, you will be directed to a confirmation page. Alternatively, you can check directly with your bank for confirmation on the transaction of payment.
