A/Prof Chan graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1995 and is a fellow of the RCOG (UK). She completed her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2008 then practiced as a Consultant Obstetrician, heading an Endocrine Antenatal Clinic in the UK, until she joined NUH in 2014. Her clinical interest is in the management of pregnant women with medical disorders.

Having completed a PhD in 2004 and with the subsequent award of a prestigious 5-year Health Foundation Clinician Scientist Fellowship and grant funding from the MRC (UK) and other research charities, she had established a basic science research group at the University of Birmingham, UK. As a Clinician Scientist, she now runs a research programme at the National University of Singapore, with a joint appointment as Senior Principal Investigator at SICS A*STAR. She has been awarded a Clinician Scientist Award by the NMRC Singapore in 2016 and 2020. Her research work focuses on endocrine and metabolic dysfunction in pregnancy and their impact on maternal and child outcomes as well as on placenta. She has leading roles in the management of Singapore’s birth cohort studies (e.g. GUSTO, S-PRESTO) and in the conduct of multi-centred randomized controlled clinical trials in the preconception phase and in pregnancy (e.g. NiPPeR trial).
