Division Director's Message

Urogynaecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery is a specialised division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology that is dedicated to improving the quality of life of women with urinary and faecal incontinence; bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction; voiding difficulty; pelvic pain; pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and pelvic floor disorder.

These conditions can affect women throughout their life cycle: from children to the aged. However, urinary incontinence (UI) and POP are much more common after pregnancy and natural childbirth, menopause and in the elderly.

The female pelvis including the pelvic floor is one of the most complex and amazing parts of the human body as it controls your urination, defaecation (opening of bowels), sexual and reproductive functions. Their disorder can affect your physical, psychological and emotional health and well being.

Our clinical services include Urogynecology Clinics with urodynamic investigations for urinary conditions, ultrasonagraphy for pelvic organ prolapse and faecal incontinence post-obstetrics anal sphincter injuries. And conservative, medical and surgical treatment for UI and POP.

Our research includes epidemiological (prevalence and risk factors for urinary incontinence in mid-life Singaporean women), clinical, surgical (surgery on incontinence and prolapse), quality of life and basic science (evaluation of biodegradable polymer nanoscaffold meshes impregnated with Wharton jelly stem cells for the treatment of POP).

We provide educational leaflets and conduct public forums and teaching/training programs for our patients, family physicians, Polyclinic doctors, specialists, Residents, colleagues, medical students and nurses on all aspects of Urogynaecology.

Our Division of Urogynaecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery include myself: A/P Roy Ng and two other Urogynaecologists, Dr Ng Kai Lyn and Dr Harvard Lin.
