Houses of Nursing
At the Alice Lee Centre of Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing), we have a House system that originated in England. In traditional schools in England, the House system divides students into smaller “houses” within the school. Each house will have its own unique name, leadership and identity. The purpose of the House system is to promote peer mentoring, foster community spirit and inculcate a sense of belonging for the students in their houses.
At NUS Nursing, our House system allows nursing students from Year One to Year Four to come together to build a supportive and nurturing mentoring and learning community. Our newly enrolled nursing students will be inducted into vibrant Houses which are named after leading nursing theorists.
Our House system aims to provide pastoral support and guidance, encouragement to students with different abilities and life experiences to reach full potential in their academic pursuit and clinical practice. This is because at NUS Nursing, we are highly committed not only to the academic progress of the students but also in providing ongoing support to our students from different walks of life, and giving them the most nurturing physical and emotional environment possible.
Our House Peer Mentoring Programme allows senior peer mentors to provide mentoring support to their junior peer mentees to help them cope with the academic and clinical rigorous demands. Each House also have assigned House Advisor/s whose main role is to lend support
to the House Captains, Vice-captains and Peer Mentors.
Our House Master, Captains and Vice-captains, and Programme Directors are student leaders who take the lead to organise Freshmen Orientation Camp, Inter-House Games and Fund-raising activities. Through these interactive, fun and engaging events, our new intake of nursing students are able to mingle with their seniors and be better acquainted with life as a student in NUS Nursing. It also promotes a sense of belonging and camaraderie spirit within their respective Houses.
We believe our students can develop to their fullest potential as an individual and professionally as they bond, learn and build memories together through the interactions between the juniors and seniors students within each House.

“The Peer Mentoring Programme has allowed me to hone my mentoring skills by providing a platform to give adequate and succint advice to my mentees. It has helped me step out of my comfort zone by motivating me to explore weak spots in my academics and clinical skills, so that I am able to be a competent mentor to my mentees. Being a mentor has also widened my social network within the nursing community. Mentees share their own unique experiences which helped myself grow as well, and fellow mentors sharing resources amongst one another to aid the cause. House Peer Mentoring Programme
Our House Peer Mentoring Programme provides a platform for students from Year 1 to Year 4 to come together to support, interact and learn as partners in a symbiotic mentoring relationship. The senior nursing students serve as peer mentors to their juniors as they are able to relate to their juniors’ challenges in coping with academic and clinical expectations.
As peer mentors and peer mentees, our nursing students work together in a mentoring relationship that is built upon mutual trust and respect. Through this peer mentoring partnership, we believe our nursing students can thrive and grow to their fullest potential as they will have someone they can look up to for guidance and support.

Freshmen Orientation Camp
Freshmen Orientation Camp (FOC) is a student-organised camp for freshmen entering NUS Nursing to assimilate into both NUS and Nursing. Freshmen will be grouped into their houses to interact with their fellow peers as well as seniors. This allows them to start their university life with a good social support system and bond with their future schoolmates and possible colleagues. Freshmen get to engage in fun games, hone their house spirit and learn more about NUS nursing throughout the entire course of the camp. So what are you waiting for ? Inter-House Games
Every year, NUS Nursing holds our Inter-House Games (IHG), the second mass house event to look forward to after our Freshmen Orientation Camp. Planned exclusively by the House Committee, the ten Nursing Houses are pitted against each other for a day of fun and competitive games, with attractive prizes to look forward to for the overall winning House! The focus and theme of the IHG change every year (and so does the winning House). So will your House earn the title of being the best House of the year? Well that is entirely up to you!
