Calling
Nursing is a calling. At NUS Nursing, we help you to pursue your calling to become a nurse. We have created various access routes to degree Nursing programmes for school leavers, mid-career switchers and diploma upgraders. We provide opportunity for our learners to experience diverse Nursing settings through our strong clinical partnership
Advocacy
Great Nursing requires nurses to become knowledgeable advocates who not only advocate for patient care, but also for policies and organisational effectiveness. Our Nursing curriculum aims to deliver broad-based, flexible and interdisciplinary learning under the National University of Singapore’s educational framework. We offer interprofessional learning opportunities for our undergraduate nursing students to undertake common curriculum components with Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy.
Rise to lead
Many of our alumni have returned to us for postgraduate courses to rise and lead in diverse Nursing career tracks. We are the only institution tasked by the Ministry of Health to grow the pool of Advance Practice Nurses (APNs) in Singapore, who take on greater roles in diagnosis and treatment through the Master of Nursing. We offer the PhD programme to support nurses’ career goals as academic teachers, researchers, administrators and educators who train and lead the next generation of nurses.
Innovation
Our faculty educators leverage on innovative technology such as simulation training, virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence to enhance students’ learning experience and outcomes. Our researchers engage in innovative and impactful research in five key areas: 1) Chronic Illness and Long-Term Care 2) Education Innovation; 3) Geriatric and Community Care; 4) Patient Safety and Quality Care; 5) Women and Child Health Care.
Nurturing
We are committed to nurture our faculty and staff to give them the support they need to serve, to grow and to excel. This nurturing environment then helps our students in their learning. Coaching and mentoring are ingrained in our culture.
Global connection
Our excellence is recognised by the international rankings that place NUS Nursing in the top 30 Nursing schools, drawing international students, faculty and researchers to our education and research. The overseas student exchange programmes provide opportunities for our nursing students to connect and contribute globally.
Professor Liaw Sok Ying
Head
Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies
The Leadership Team at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing) at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, led by the Head of Department, Prof Liaw Sok Ying, comprises seven faculty members with rich clinical and teaching experience. The Director for each programme oversees strategy, programmes, administration and related policy matters.
The University seeks to develop our students to become clinically competent, empathetic, and caring nursing professionals through both formal and informal education that extends beyond the classroom environment and in global learning space.
Our commitment to research enables the translation of research into impactful healthcare outcomes and improve lives. The discovery of new nursing knowledge grounds the nursing practice principles, empowers nurses to advocate high-quality care for patients, and inspires nurses to lead and effectively collaborate with other healthcare professionals.

Our multi-disciplinary and innovative education pedagogy prepare students to be future-ready nurses who are equipped with skills and abilities to deliver impactful healthcare outcomes and navigate the challenges of the evolving healthcare landscape.
Our academic faculty recognises the nursing role as an integration of nursing and clinical sciences, medicine, humanities, and social sciences. We are committed to develop and nurture future generations of nursing professionals who will continue to lead, drive and contribute to the global nursing and healthcare system.
History
Established in 2005, the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing) at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, is the pioneering institution in Singapore to offer an undergraduate Nursing programme for A-level holders and polytechnic graduates. It offers 7 full- and part-time Nursing degree programmes from baccalaureate to doctoral levels. The Centre produced the first locally-trained PhD nurse in 2012. NUS Nursing also offers programmes designed for working adults such as the Career Conversion Programme, which was started in 2018, as well as Continuing Education Courses.
