Nursing Scholars from East Asia and Beyond to Gather in Singapore for EAFONS

Nursing academics and doctoral students worldwide will convene in Singapore on January 17-18 for the annual East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) Conference. The event will be held at the Furama RiverFront Hotel.

“The Conference provides a unique platform for nursing scholars and researchers to share and exchange scientific knowledge and academic insights, and is an important thread to advancing high-quality research and doctoral education in nursing,” said Professor Karis Cheng, NUS Nursing, who is the Conference Chair.

“It is also a great opportunity for nurses, academics, students and other healthcare professionals to build international collaboration, synergies and partnerships in nursing education and research,” she added.

Regional forum for nursing research

The EAFONS Conference was initiated in 1997 to allow nursing academics and doctoral students from across the region to come together to share their knowledge and explore new ideas in nursing education and research, as well as network with the region’s leading academics and healthcare practitioners.

First established in Hong Kong, the yearly conference has since been hosted by nursing schools in South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore, attracting several hundred delegates yearly. The upcoming conference will be the second meeting co-organised and hosted by the NUS Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies.

Conference speakers

Professor Ann Kurth, Dean of Yale University School of Nursing, and Professor of Epidemiology of Yale School of Public Health, will serve as the conference’s keynote speaker.

The highly respected epidemiologist and clinically-trained nurse-midwife, whose research focuses on HIV/reproductive health and global health system strengthening, will discuss the role of doctoral education and research in transforming nursing and healthcare practice and policy.
