Dr Zakir Hussain is a Senior Lecturer at the NUS Medicine. He is involved in teaching basic sciences for nursing students at the Alice Lee Centre for nursing studies and for medical students in the Department of Anatomy.

Dr Zakir is a recognised basic science educator, a researcher and a general surgeon who began his career as a medical doctor in 1992. He completed his surgical training in 2001 and has worked as a surgeon in hospitals in Maldives, Saudi Arabia, India and Singapore. He is also trained in Clinical Epidemiology and is a Master in Public Health from Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, NUS with a Tye Cho Yook Gold Medal in 2008.

During his tenure as a hospital Epidemiologist for Singapore General Hospital, he has contributed to a number of clinical improvement projects and was also researcher in areas of infection control.

His passion to teach and mentor young nurses and doctors made him take up lecturing in NUS in 2010. He teaches Anatomy and Physiology, and is also involved in training medical and nursing students at the Centre for Healthcare Simulation in NUS. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For his service to the teaching profession, Dr Zakir has received many awards, including NUHS Educator teaching excellence award twice for his role in clinical education.
