Ang Mei Qi pursued her Master of Nursing degree at NUS Nursing to take her learning and experience to the next level, acquiring the much-needed knowledge, skills, and mindset to become a Board-certified practitioner. As a nurse clinician at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, she understood that she needed to deepen her knowledge and acquire a new set of skills to be fully able to cater to the needs of women and children – all who have very unique and particular needs. Empowered by her Master of Nursing degree, she’s confident to deliver expert and compassionate care to all her patients.
Ong Keh Kiong, another staff nurse at the National University Hospital, also trusted NUS Nursing leadership in nursing. As a registered nurse with a keen interest in nursing research, critical care, and palliative care, he believes the institution can help him highlight patient dignity through education and independence promotion. After all, it is NUS Nursing’s mission to “serve with humility, compassion, integrity and respect to improve life for all.”
Sng Qian Wen, a graduate of Master of Nursing, has accomplished so much with the expert nursing knowledge and skills she acquired through the institution’s unique education and training. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Nursing) (Honours) from the Alice Lee Center for Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing), and Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic. She has particular interests in nutrition, protocol-based care and quality, which has helped her build her career as a nurse at Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. With her acquired education, she looks forward to promoting the utilisation of evidence in daily nursing care to improve the quality of care for patients.
For Lee Ang Yun, a Senior Staff Nurse 1 at the National University Cancer Institute, National University Hospital, studying nursing at NUS Nursing is the obvious and only choice. He says, “It is the only accredited programme by the Singapore Nursing Board for APN registration.” Likewise, he emphasised that the Master’s Degree from NUS Nursing can equip him with the necessary foundational knowledge and skills for his future role as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
Singapore General Hospital Senior Staff Nurse Chen Shuo admires NUS Nursing leadership in nursing education. In her words, “The structured curriculum enables me to build my capabilities in the core competencies required to be an Advanced Practice Nurse, and it helps me keep up with the increasing demands and expanding roles of nurses.”
Chieng Ying Jia Shermin, who graduated from the programme and is now a Community Health Advanced Practice Nurse at Bukit Panjang Polyclinic (National University Polyclinics), shares that obtaining her Masters has helped her gain a competitive edge and provided her a wider perspective on the industry. “The NUS Master of Nursing programme was conducted by incredibly knowledgeable faculty members. They provided a safe and wonderful learning environment to support students to ensure their academic success.”
Ng Qi Wen, a Senior Staff Nurse at the Regional Health System Office, echoes the same sentiment and feels deeply proud of her NUS leadership in nursing education. “I had a previous positive experience during my Bachelor degree; the NUS Nursing team provided good support for students.” She also highlighted that the institution as a reputable university makes her feel assured that she is learning from the best.
Michelle Segal-James, an Advanced Practice Nurse Intern at TTSH, believes that taking her Masters of Nursing Degree at NUS has opened up a world of possibilities for continuous learning and professional development. She adds, “It allows opportunities for nursing development and contribution back to society.” She likewise stated that the hybrid blended curriculum, dedicated educators and facilitators sets NUS Nursing apart from others.
Through the programme, NUS Master of Nursing students will be equipped to execute the nine APN core Entrusted Professional Activities (EPAs) at the expected level of entrustment (LOE). They will likewise be trained and become more capable in patient care, clinical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, practice-based learning and improvement, and professionalism – the domains determined by the Singapore Nursing Board.
