The Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies is one of the top universities in Asia for Nursing according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject

NUS Nursing is consistently the top choice for those who are in pursuit of a degree in nursing in Singapore, as the programme is designed to hone practical skills and strengthen clinical experiences through clinical placements.

Students who have performed well throughout the programme and who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.2 are eligible to apply to proceed to the Honour’s year, leading to BSc-Nursing(Honours).

The focus of the Honours programme covers evidence-based nursing, applied research methods, and integrated clinical practice, among other key core subject matters. Students will also be required to complete a research study during the Honours year.

Our Honours programme provides our most promising students many opportunities to maximise their nursing careers. With our approach to nursing education, students not only shine in the classroom and in practical application, but can also contribute to the advancement of medical sciences by knowing how to turn bright ideas into actual research pursuits with real-world impact.

Take it from Ang Wei How Darryl, a PhD candidate. In his pursuit of higher learning with us, Darryl says, “The programme has provided me with a safe space to build and conduct research in a calibrated manner. Through this Honours Programme, I was able to conduct both my primary and secondary research. Needless to say, it was an eye opening experience and it further spurred my interest in a research career. What I appreciate most about this programme is that it is taught by some of the brightest minds in Nursing and it is internationally renowned. But more importantly, the university provides students with a lot of resources in order to pursue their research interests.”

Meanwhile, Tan Lian Kwang shares a different perspective as a Honours student hoping to practise at a hospital while also contributing to research. He shares that he’s interested in learning how evidence from literature contributes to the protocols implemented in the clinical settings. “I believe that this programme will add value to my qualifications as a staff nurse at the hospital and open up opportunities to pursue the research track in the future. I feel that the Honours Programme curriculum is comprehensive, especially in imparting skills necessary for searching, reviewing, and critiquing research literature, as well as conducting primary and secondary research.”

“Joining the NUS BSc (Nursing)/(Honours) programme will definitely set you apart from your peers as you are further equipped with the valuable skills in comprehending the most updated evidence in literature and translating it into clinical practice.”

Our dynamic school environment has likewise contributed to stimulating the minds of aspiring nurse-researchers. By learning from the best — mentors and peers alike — our students are able to engage in an exchange of ideas and best practices. In the process, it is not only their minds that are sharpened but also their values of open-mindedness, community service, and being science-driven.

Muhammad Shulhan Bin Mohd Sidek describes this in his own words, sharing, “ I strongly believe that this Honours Programme will provide me with the invaluable experience and insights on how research is conducted in real-life settings. The Honours Programme is challenging, I must admit. But thankfully, we have our professors and supervisors to guide us through the process. I personally find the structure of the curriculum appealing because it provides a good structure for me to build upon especially when I have little background in Human Science. I also enjoy the inter-professional education where we go through scenarios with medical students, and enhance our teamwork and communication skills. Not only are we able to make new friends, but understand each other’s respective roles and strengths to provide quality care to our patients.”

At NUS Nursing, develop stronger research skills, communication and analytical techniques, and learn other advancements in the field to better equip yourself as a medical practitioner.
