Scholarships, Bursaries & Financial Aids

The University is committed to a needs-blind merit-based admission policy that ensures no deserving student is denied a university education because of financial difficulty.

To help meet the educational expenses of financially needy students, aid in the form of loans, scholarships, bursaries and work-study opportunities are administered by the Office of Financial Aid (OFA). More information on financial aid available here.

Scholarships offered by NUS Nursing

NUS Nursing offers its own scholarships on top of the NUS-level scholarships. To be considered for the faculty scholarship, please apply for both Financial Aid and Scholarships through the Office of Financial Aid (OFA).

Applicants/awardees must not concurrently hold any other form of free aid e.g. grants, bursaries, scholarships without prior approval from the respective awarding bodies.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Must have a good academic and extra-curricular activities record.

Award

At least one bursary will be awarded, subject to the fund’s balance. Each bursary is tenable for one year with preference to be given to the same recipient. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility.

Donated in 2007 by Dr Della Lee of the D.S. Lee Foundation in memory of her parents, up to two scholarships will be awarded each year. Preference will be given to applicant with parent working in the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority or as a Police Officer in the Singapore Police Force if the applicant meets the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants:

  • Can be either a Singapore citizen or permanent resident of Singapore.
  • Must have a good academic and extra-curricular activities record.
  • Whose monthly per capita household income (PCI) should be not more than S$2,250.

Award

The value of each scholarship is S$7,000 for one year.

In memory of Mdm Wong Moi Yang, her children established a scholarship in her name to help needy students pursue their studies in Nursing, which they believe to be a noble vocation that is integral in healthcare.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Must have a good academic and extra-curricular activities record.

Award

The value of the scholarship is S$10,000 for one year.

Bursaries offered by NUS Nursing 

To be considered for the faculty bursaries, please apply for Financial Aid through the NUS Office of Financial Aid (OFA).

In order to be considered for a faculty bursary, you have to be first offered a NUS Bursary, accept it and meet its pre-requisite(s). If you are found eligible for a bursary by the faculty, you will be informed by the faculty from September onwards. If you are offered a bursary by both the OFA and the faculty, you will be informed if you are allowed to hold both awards concurrently. The awards’ value may be adjusted or the award with the lower value may be withdrawn.

The fund is donated by the general public to help the needy nursing students.

Donated in 2023 by Ms Wan Tzan-Chiu, one bursary will be awarded each year.

  • Must be a Singapore Citizen.

Award

The value of each bursary is S$15,000 for one year. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility. 

The Chan-Tan Family Nursing Bursary was established by an NUS alumni in 2020 to support needy Nursing undergraduates at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The donors set up this bursary in order to show their appreciation to healthcare frontliners during the pandemic.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality, but preference will be given to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents.

Value of Award

At least one bursary will be awarded each year. The amount of the bursary is subject to fund availability.

Mdm Chia Ngen Hong, Cynthia has pledged a gift to the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to support bursaries for students in financial need. The gift will be fulfilled by her two children, Mr Khoo Kay Khiam, David and Ms Khoo I-Jean, and her daughter-in-law, Ms Wong Mae-Ling, Stephanie. All three bursaries follow the same criteria.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.

Award

The value of each bursary is up to S$9,000 for one year.

Donated in 2015 by Mr Edmund Lee Kit Ming in honour of his father, Mr Edmund Lee Wah Bow, one to two bursaries will be awarded in each academic year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Must be first-year students enrolled in the BSc (Nursing) programme at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies.

Award

The value of the bursary is S$10,000 per annum for three years. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility.

It is the intent of the donor, Mr Fok Chu On, to set up a bursary fund to support needy Medical and Nursing undergraduate students studying in the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for the minimum duration of their course of study. For the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) programme, the minimum duration of the course of study excludes the Honours year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Must be first-year students enrolled in the BSc (Nursing) programme at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies.

Award

The value of the bursary is S$10,000 per annum for three years. Bursary recipients are required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility.

The Lim Kwee Neo Nursing Bursary was established in 2019. The gift was established by the family of the late Miss Lim Kwee Neo, who pursued nursing as her passion as she was inspired by the care and dedication provided by nurses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.

Award

The value of each bursary is S$10,000 for one year.

The bursary was established in 2021 by TAK Products and Services to help the underprivileged undergraduates nursing students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Must be a Singapore Citizen.

Award

At least one bursary will be awarded, subject to the fund’s balance.

The United Medicare Nursing Bursary was established in 2023 by United Medicare Pte Ltd to support financially needy Nursing undergraduates at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality.

Award

At least one bursary will be awarded yearly, subject to the fund’s availability.

The Victor & Angeline Lim Hesed Foundation Nursing Bursary was established in 2020 to support needy Nursing undergraduates at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The gift was established by Mr Lim Chee Ping Victor and his spouse, Ms Ooi May Ling, Angeline.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Must be a Singapore Citizen.

Award

The value of each bursary is S$15,000 for one year. Each bursary is tenable for one year with preference to be given to the same recipient. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility. Recipient(s) may be given an additional study award of S$1,000 based on academic performance.

Donated in 2021 by Ms Joan Tay in honour of her father, Mr Wilson Tay who had supported her for her tertiary education despite her being a lady growing up in a not so well-to-do family.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Must be a Singapore Citizen.

Award

At least one bursary will be awarded each year, subject to the fund’s balance. The bursary will be used towards the full subsidized tuition fee of the recipient. Each bursary is tenable for up to four years. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility.

The Wong Yeh Lan Nursing Bursary was established in 2020 by Mr Lim Thian Seng, Tommy to support needy Nursing undergraduates at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be either a Singapore citizen or a permanent resident of Singapore.
  • Year 1 to 3 students

Award

Four bursaries valued of up to S$10,000 each will be awarded for one year. Each bursary is tenable for one year with preference to be given to the same recipient. Bursary recipient is required to re-apply in subsequent academic years for assessment of eligibility.

The Yeap Kar On Nursing Bursary was established in 2023 by his wife, Ms Sally Chia Puay Huang, to honour her late husband, his heart for the under privileged, and the virtues of integrity, diligence and responsibility that he modelled.

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants:

  • Can be of any nationality
  • Should preferably have good academic performance

Value of Award:

  • Each bursary awards up to SGD 10,000, and a maximum of three awards will be disbursed in each academic year

They will be bonded if they receive a sponsorship or scholarship offered by a healthcare institution.
