NUS Nursing alumni Dr Darryl Ang and Mr Cheng Ling Jie awarded scholarships at the 10th Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent Scheme (START) Award Ceremony

16 August 2024

Dr Darryl Ang (second from left) and Mr Cheng Ling Jie (middle) were awarded the Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship at the START Award ceremony held by the Ministry of Education.

Congratulations to our NUS Nursing alumni, Dr Darryl Ang (Class of 2015), Research Fellow at NUS Nursing and Cheng Ling Jie (Class of 2017), PhD candidate and Research Associate at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, for being each awarded the Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship at the 10th START Award Ceremony organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE). They were among the 28 Singaporeans who were awarded scholarships and grants at the event on 14 Aug 2024. The ceremony was officiated by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship supports Singaporeans who have just been conferred a doctoral degree and have been accepted for postdoctoral training at a leading overseas/local academic/research institution. MOE funds 50% of the fellowship while the paired university funds the other 50%. Scholars will return to their paired university as faculty members upon completion of their postdoctoral training to serve their bond. Both Dr Darryl Ang and Cheng Ling Jie are paired to National University of Singapore.

Dr Darryl Ang will be heading to University of Tokyo, Japan for Palliative Care training, while Cheng Ling Jie will be going to University of Oxford, UK to learn more about Healthcare Intervention Outcomes and Economics.
