New NUS senior appointments

NUS recently announced new senior appointments for the positions of NUS Senior Vice President (Health Innovation & Translation), NUS Senior Vice President (Health Education & Resources), and NUS Senior Vice President (Health Affairs).
NUS Senior Vice President (Health Innovation & Translation)
Professor John Eu-Li Wong will be appointed to the new position of NUS Senior Vice President (Health Innovation & Translation), effective from 1 January 2020.
Prof Wong, the Isabel Chan Professor in Medical Sciences, is currently the Chief Executive of the National University Health System (NUHS) and NUS Senior Vice President (Health Affairs).
A renowned medical oncologist-haematologist and clinician, Prof Wong has held many leadership positions at NUS and NUHS. He has played a key role in advising the University on strategies to advance academic medicine. He has also been vital in creating synergies between the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine), NUS Dentistry, and the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) through NUHS to drive global excellence.
In his new role, Prof Wong will be involved in strategic recruitment in NUS and NUHS to support NUS’ research, translation, innovation and deployment in Health and Biomedical Sciences. He will also work on developing Health and Biomedical Sciences research and look into its local and global positioning.
He will also be the key liaison for NUS in a variety of NUHS’ major projects including the Integrated General Hospital at the Alexandra Campus, Healthy Longevity and Precision Medicine, and the Translational Hub at the Kent Ridge Campus.
NUS Senior Vice President (Health Education & Resources)
Effective from 1 February 2020, Associate Professor Benjamin Ong will take on the new role of NUS Senior Vice President (Health Education & Resources).
Assoc Prof Ong returns to NUS and NUHS after holding the position of the Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health (MOH) for the past six years. He is a renowned neurologist with interests in neuroimmunology and neuroepidemiology, and a champion for the use of healthcare information technology in patient care. Prior to his secondment to MOH, he held a range of leadership appointments during his 33-year career in the National University Hospital (NUH). These included key positions such as Chief Executive of NUHS, Chairman of NUH’s Medical Board, as well as Chair of the Department of Medicine at NUS Medicine and NUH.
As NUS Senior Vice President (Health Education & Resources), Assoc Prof Ong’s job scope will include managing the regulatory issues for biomedical research and translation. He will also work with NUS Medicine, NUS Dentistry and SSHSPH to enhance continuing education in the healthcare arena; as well as assist NUS Medicine in broadening the scope and advancing the development of academic medicine.
NUS Senior Vice President (Health Affairs)
From 1 January 2020, Associate Professor Yeoh Khay Guan, as the new Chief Executive of NUHS, will take up the appointment of Senior Vice President (Health Affairs) at NUS.
A clinician-scholar, educator and leader, Assoc Prof Yeoh has held multiple leadership positions in NUS including Dean and Vice Dean of NUS Medicine, and Deputy Director of NUS Medicine’s Division of Graduate Medical Studies. He is currently the Deputy Chief Executive of NUHS and has been key in leading the clinical care planning and health system transformation for NUHS.
