Eight immunotherapy trials are currently ongoing as part of the National University Health System (NUHS)’s Cancer Summit Research Programme, aimed at targeting a range of cancers including breast cancer and lymphoma.

Professor Chng Wee Joo, Director of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) explained that immunotherapy recognises and kills tumour cells from the outside, while conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy do so from the inside.

The immunotherapy trials are aimed at testing new ways of improving the immune systems of cancer patients through antibodies and vaccines, but are restricted for to patients with cancer relapses at present, as the treatment method remains at the experimental stage.
