Dr Long Yun Chau promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Dr Long Yun Chau on his promotion to Associate Professor (Educator Track), effective 1 January 2026.
Assoc Prof Long is an accomplished educator in the Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine). He has made substantial contributions to teaching, curriculum development, educational leadership, and interdisciplinary programme design.
He has demonstrated particular strength in making complex scientific concepts accessible to students through thoughtful pedagogical approaches and innovative teaching materials. His teaching is characterised by a strong commitment to student learning, with an emphasis on conceptual clarity, independent inquiry, and the integration of knowledge across disciplines. He has also contributed to educational scholarship through research-informed teaching and the development of learning resources that support deeper understanding beyond the classroom.
Beyond his teaching, Assoc Prof Long has undertaken important leadership roles that have helped shape education within the Department, School, and University. He has led curriculum restructuring and assessment enhancement through his service on the relevant Faculty and Life Science curriculum committees. He also strengthened fair, calibrated practices for undergraduate research supervision and examination. At the programme level, he has assembled diverse teaching teams, aligning them around clear learning objectives and advancing integrative coursework.
In addition, Assoc Prof Long has played a key role in the development of interdisciplinary education. He was a founding lead for an interdisciplinary course designed to bring together perspectives from Medicine, Law, Design and Engineering to foster authentic problem-based learning. He also redesigned the curriculum for a molecular nutrition and metabolic biology module, introducing emerging topics and a research seminar component to strengthen students’ engagement with original research and independent thinking.
Assoc Prof Long’s broader academic service further reflects his standing as an educator and leader. He has served on thesis advisory committees, examined postgraduate theses, and reviewed for leading international journals. His contributions to teaching and education have been recognised through multiple awards across NUS Medicine, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Dentistry.
