Dr Chen Zhi Xiong appointed Assistant Dean (Education)

Dr Chen Zhi Xiong has been appointed as Assistant Dean for Education at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, with effect from 1 August 2020.

Dr Chen Zhi Xiong is a Senior Lecturer and the Principal Investigator of the Neurodevelopment and Cancer Laboratory as well as the Deputy Education Director, Health Professions in the Department of Physiology at NUS. He is also a Resident Fellow, King Edward VII Hall in NUS and holds a Joint Scientist appointment in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

After graduating from NUS in 2005, he was awarded an NUS-Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2009. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Ludwig Cancer Research (Stockholm), Sweden from 2009 to 2012 and at the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation, Barncancerfonden from 2011 to 2013. He has held appointments as Assistant Dean of Students, Office of Student Affairs, and Associate Director of Alumni Relations, King Edward VII Hall in NUS.

In his role as the Assistant Dean (Education), Dr Chen will help to lead and oversee key initiatives in Education. He is currently a System Block Workgroup (SBW) preclinical lead in the Endocrine, Nutrition and Metabolism system block, program lead of the Inquiry and Thinking (I&T) pathway as well as an Integration Lead Educator (ILE) and CenMED Associate.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Associate Professor Malcolm Mahadevan, who is stepping down as Assistant Dean (Education) to serve as the NUHS Designated Institutional Official (DIO). We thank Assoc Prof Mahadevan for his leadership and contributions to NUS Medicine through programmes such as medical student electives, the Global Health and Leadership (GoHELP) programme, Longitudinal Patient Experience (LPE) and interprofessional education, and we wish him success in his new role.
