NUS Medicine's bioethics casebook to help the community care for the aged

NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine's Centre for Biomedical Ethics (CBmE) will launch a Singapore Bioethics Casebook titled ‘Caring for Older People in an Ageing Society’ on 24 May 2017. The Casebook features 10 case studies with situations that go beyond the clinic and into the community, and beyond mainstream issues in medical ethics to focus on the everyday ethical challenges faced by family caregivers, domestic workers, case managers, volunteers, and the aged themselves.

Medical textbook by NUS professors is an unexpected hit

Titled ‘Guide to the Essentials in Emergency Medicine’, the textbook is the work of Drs Shirley Ooi and Peter Manning, both senior doctors at the NUH Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) and also associate professors at the NUS medical school. The Guide contains practical instructions that help emergency physicians tackle the most life-threatening and common conditions. Besides hospitals, the textbook is also used by general practitioners to diagnose and treat patients in their clinics, and medical students to learn about illnesses.

NUS Medicine researchers develop potential oral anti-diabetic drug

After 20 years of extensive research, a made-in-Singapore oral anti-diabetic drug has been developed by the Department of Pharmacology of the NUS Yong Loo School of Medicine. Working together with the Singapore Clinical Research Institute and the National University Health System, the team behind DAA-1's development today announced the successful completion of a Phase I clinical trial of the anti-diabetic drug.

Bigger, brighter, better human anatomy teaching facility at NUS caters to more students

The newly refurbished Human Anatomy Teaching Facility, situated within the Department of Anatomy's building on the NUS Medicine campus, was opened today by Mr Gan Kim Yong, the Minister for Health. In addition to extensive upgrades that have increased the area of teaching space, the enhanced facility can now hold up to 100 cadavers, known as Silent Mentors that contribute to the lively teaching of human anatomy for medical students and practising healthcare professionals.
