Genetic map of the heart opens new ways of understanding heart disease

Researchers from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine have developed the first heart genomic "connectome" – a map of the genes in the heart and the “switches” that connect to and control them; making it possible to study how genetic differences between individuals affect heart disease responses, discover new disease-associated genes and devise new drugs based on gene targets.

Cross-disciplinary teams at NUS Medical Grand Challenge come together to solve healthcare dilemmas

This year, the fourth edition of the competition organised by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine took place online for the first time. The innovative solutions of 21 teams, which included innovations motivated by the current pandemic, were assessed by a panel of judges representing a variety of industries such as information technology, healthcare and engineering.

Antibiotic exposure in infants associated with higher risks of childhood obesity

A team of researchers from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research's Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences found that young children exposed to antibiotics at an early age (from birth to 12 months) are associated with higher risks of childhood obesity and increased adiposity in early to mid-childhood.

Researchers from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine have discovered a protein named Mfsd7c in blood vessel cells that is critical for blood vessel development and brain growth.
