Teaching Philosophy

A good teacher is not one who is omniscient and infallible. A good teacher is not one who simply imparts knowledge. A good teacher is one who learns and grows with their students.

Biography

I was a student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) where I did my MSc and BSc. During my time in NTU as a student, I met educators and mentors who inspired me in the classroom and in the research laboratory. I began my journey in the research field with Prof Liang Zhao-Xun in NTU as an undergraduate and continued on to pursue my postgraduate studies with his team. As a postgraduate student, my research work centred on the optimisation of Streptomyces spp. for usage as heterologous hosts for drug discovery. While fulfilling my role as a research student, I had the privilege to serve as a part-time Teaching Assistant (TA) for undergraduates. During this period, teaching was not simply a requirement for me to fulfil. It was an exciting experiment for me. Through this experience, I uncovered my passion to teach and set my mind to embark on my journey as an educator. As a TA here in NUS, it is an honour to be a part of the Department's Educational Excellence Program (DEEP) team and to work closely with so many passionate and wonderful educators.
