Programme Highlights
Our microbiomes, the communities of microscopic organisms that live in and on us, shape our development from birth and play a pivotal role in both health and disease. Our microbiomes can be nurtured through everyday choices, including consumption of probiotics, prebiotics and antibiotics, and have a bearing on how gracefully we mature and age.
The workshop aims to educate/equip participants with knowledge and basic skills in the following topics:
- Introduction to what microbiomes are
- Bacterial DNA (metagenomic) sequencing
- Microbiomes effect on health (development) and disease
- Probiotics and prebiotics in food
- Techniques to prepare home-made probiotic drinks
- Influence of skin microbiomes on beauty and home hygiene
- Appreciation of microbiome research in science/medicine
Training will be conducted in the form of seminars (small group lectures with Q&A), laboratory demonstrations and hands-on preparation of probiotic drinks.

Trainer Profile
Pre-Requisites and Assessment
Proficient in English and possess basic biology (secondary level) or relevant experience in microbiome-related industry/work/hobbies.
Assessment includes multiple choice questions.
Awards and Certification
All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Learners must record at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Attendance.
