Programme Highlights

This module provides clinical optometrists a refresher on the aetiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods and management strategies of glaucoma.

Optometrists will learn to recognise the urgency in referring each case of glaucoma. They will monitor and manage the patients under their duty of care and refer the patients to the ophthalmologists in cases that requires secondary or tertiary eyecare.

The module will allow clinical optometrists to make use of the clinical skills learnt in the previous module to fulfil the following Competency Framework of Clinical Optometry & Community Screening (COCS), approved by Ministry Of Health (MOH).

This graduate certificate course is  for OOB-registered Optometrists, who are actively practising and holds an undergraduate degree or higher qualification in optometry.

The faculty for the Graduate Certificate in Detection and Co-management of Anterior Eye diseases, Cataract, and Glaucoma includes highly qualified ophthalmologists with diverse subspecialties and clinical optometrists with advanced qualifications and extensive experience as community eye care clinicians.

Course Agenda

This module provides clinical optometrists a refresher on the aetiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods and management strategies of glaucoma. The participants will learn to recognise the urgency in referring each case of glaucoma. They will monitor and manage the patients under their duty of care and refer the patients to the ophthalmologists in cases that require secondary or tertiary eyecare.

The module also aims to improve the clinical optometrists’ communication with other healthcare professionals, patient education and counselling when managing patients with glaucoma.

Pre-Requisites and Assessment

Prerequisite

The candidates must be fully registered with The Optometry and Opticianry Board (OOB) and have obtained at least one of the following qualifications.
(a) A recognised university degree or higher qualifications in optometry.
(b) Optometry degrees from any private universities run in Singapore before, such as Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Singapore Polytechnic-University of Manchester Optometry Degree Programme, Aston University external degree programme.
(c) Degrees in Life/Health Sciences but possess a valid practicing certificate in optometry and have at least two years of relevant experience.

Assessment

Online test, Practical Exam and Written Exam

Awards and Certification

Module will be stacked with two other modules (SOM-ACTAEDCG and SOM-ARCSAED) to form the Graduate Certificate in Detection and Co-management of Anterior Eye diseases, Cataract, and Glaucoma.

1) All self-sponsored Singaporean aged 25 and above can use their SkillsFuture Credit to pay for the course fee.

2) Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES): Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.

3) Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS): SME-sponsored employees (Singapore Citizens and PRs) may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.

4) Learners must pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion. Learners may have to bear the full course fee if they fail to meet this requirement.
