Executive Certificate in Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine

Mode of Delivery

Hybrid Learning

Duration

13 weeks

Date / Time

  • 17/01/2024 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, 17/04/2024 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Course period: 17 January 2024 – 17 April 2024. Classes will be held every Wednesday, 2pm - 5pm.

Programme Highlights

Organised by the Department of Biochemistry, the Executive Certificate in Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine covers analytical methods and technologies that enables profiling of functional biomolecules, including proteins, metabolites, and lipids, as high-resolution molecular descriptors of human health and disease.

The first half of the course introduces the experimental workflows, instrumentation, and data quality control procedures across different application areas. The second half will be followed by a series of application-oriented lectures by experts who routinely deploy proteomic and metabolomic profiling methods in their own research areas. We will summarize the current practice and future outlook in the context of emerging applications in precision medicine.

Who Should Attend

Individuals who are currently working in healthcare, research or diagnostic lab, biotechnology, pharmacology, academic medicine or education fields.

Course Structure

  • To attain an ‘Executive Certificate in Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine’, participants will have to sign up for the ‘PHM5002: ‘Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine’ individual academic course in the NUS Online Application portal.
  • Application period for Semester 2 (AY23/24): 28 Sep 2023 – 5 Nov 2023.
  • Registration for this course has been extended to 23 Nov 2023. To register and gain access to the NUS Online Application portal, please contact mscphm@nus.edu.sg.
  • The Executive Certificate in Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine is one of two executive certificates that stacks towards a Graduate Certificate in Fundamentals of Precision Medicine.

PHM5002: Proteomics and Metabolomics in Precision Health and Medicine

Benefits of Attending

Learners should be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of the pros and cons of the core technologies enabling proteomics and metabolomics analysis (mass spectrometry, affinity-based proteomics, nuclear magnetic resonance).
  • Develop a sense for the approaches to link genomic information to protein and small molecule data as surrogate outcomes.
  • Evaluate the potential of emerging multi-omics approaches in the context of precision medicine.
  • Understand the challenges in the standardization of omics-level data and issues in scalability and reproducibility.
