Programme Highlights

Organised by the Department of Biochemistry, the Executive Certificate in Human Genomics in Precision Medicine aim to provide learners with a strong foundation of the role genetics / genomics in the entire pathway of Precision Medicine and the modern genomic tools used in Precision Medicine.

It includes the:

1. Understanding of the genetic/genomic basis of Diseases (inherited, complex, infectious)

2. Employing state-of-the-art Omics and Analytic tools to:

  • Identify Disease causing genes/ biomarkers.
  • Diagnose / Prognose Disease

3. Developing genetic / genomic strategies to:

  • Prevent / mitigate severity of disease.
  • Treat disease

Who Should Attend

Individuals who are currently working in healthcare, research or diagnostic lab, biotechnology, pharmacology, academic medicine or education fields.

Course Structure

  • To attain an ‘Executive Certificate in Human Genomics in Precision Medicine’, participants will have to sign up for the ‘PHM5001: Human Genomics in Precision Medicine’ individual academic course in the NUS Online Application portal. 
  • Application period for Semester 2 (AY23/24): 28 Sep 2023 – 5 Nov 2023.
  • Registration for this course has been extended to 23 Nov 2023. To register and gain access to the NUS Online Application portal, please contact mscphm@nus.edu.sg.
  • The Executive Certificate in Human Genomics in Precision Medicine is one of two executive certificates that stacks towards a Graduate Certificate in Fundamentals of Precision Medicine.

1. Introduction to Precision Medicine (PM)

      • Overview of precision medicine in population health

2. Genetic / Genomic Basis of Diseases

      • Inherited

      • Complex

      • Infectious

3. Introduction to high throughput genomic PM OMIC tools 

4. Disease Genes Identification through Association Analyses with PM OMICs

      • Variant Curation

5. Disease Susceptibility / Prognosis Prediction based on genetic/genomic signatures with PM OMICs through Machine Learning

6. Introduction to genetic/genomic Disease Diagnosis 

7. Introduction to modern genetic PM tools to prevent/mitigate severity of disease – Genetic Vaccines 

8. Introduction to modern genetic PM tools to treat disease – Molecular and Gene Therapy

 

Pre-Requisites and Assessment

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and may be required to show relevant work experience. Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval by the school.

Assessment:

  • Project work

 

Awards and Certification

Learners who complete the PHM5001 academic course will receive a Certificate of Completion and an Executive Certificate in Human Genomics in Precision Medicine.

Interested learners must self-enrol for the PHM5001 academic course individually via the Online Application Portal (OAP).

Points to note

  • Course submission closes on 5 Nov 2023 (Sunday) 23:59HR (strictly no extension will be given). No payment is collected now, as the courses are ongoing registration.
  • As part of the submission requirement for academic courses, please prepare to upload your NRIC (front and back) / transcript / Certification during the application.
  • All applicants will be notified of the application outcome (offered/rejected) ~ 4 weeks after registration closing. You will need to accept/reject the module offering by then & the school’s administrative & finance team will contact all applicants to proceed with administration & corp billing/payment application in stages.
  • Courses are not offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. A committee will review all applications base on the eligibility criteria.
  • Student Services Fee of $25.46 is payable for the semester after enrolling in the course.
