Published: 01 Oct 2026

Congratulations to Prof Victor Koh Teck Chang, on his promotion from Associate Professor to full Professor, with effect from 1 October 2026.
Prof Victor Koh Teck Chang is an internationally recognised clinician-scientist, innovator and academic leader in ophthalmology, specialising in adult and childhood glaucoma as well as complex cataracts. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at both the National University Hospital (NUH) and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) while also holding the appointment of Pro-Tem Chief Executive Officer at Tengah General and Community Hospital (TGCH). His career unites clinical excellence, translational research, and health-system leadership, with a sustained focus on pioneering new technologies and service models to improve population health outcomes.
Prof Koh has made significant contributions to the development and translation of novel glaucoma therapies. In 2017, he was the Principal Investigator for the first-in-human clinical study of the Paul Glaucoma Implant, subsequently guiding its evaluation through international multi-centre studies. The implant has since gained regulatory approvals and is now used in more than 70 countries worldwide. His broader innovation portfolio includes glaucoma laser therapies, self-tonometry, portable perimetry and automated visual-acuity test technologies, several of which are progressing through patenting, industry partnerships and commercial licensing.
At NUH, Prof Koh has been instrumental in advancing specialised ophthalmic care. Following fellowship training in paediatric glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital, he established NUH’s childhood glaucoma service in 2020, strengthening specialised care for children with complex glaucoma.
Under his stewardship, NUH also launched the NUH Retina Centre, significantly enhancing the coordination of complex retinal care. Furthermore, he conceptualised and launched the NUS Centre for Innovation and Precision Eye Health (InVISION), a multidisciplinary platform bringing together clinical medicine, engineering, digital health, and population eye health to accelerate translation from discovery to implementation.
Beyond these achievements, Prof Koh has demonstrated strong academic and organisational leadership. As Head of Ophthalmology at NUS Medicine and NUH, he advanced the department’s clinical, academic and research capabilities, developed new services and platforms, and expanded regional and international collaborations.
In his role as Pro-Tem Chief Executive Officer of TGCH, Prof Koh leads the planning and development of Singapore’s newest integrated general and community hospital. He plays a central role in guiding its care model, infrastructure, workforce strategy, and community partnerships, advancing a vision for an AI-enabled, data-driven, and human-centred healthcare institution.
Throughout his distinguished career, Prof Koh has dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of ophthalmologists, clinician-scientists, and healthcare leaders through active teaching, mentorship, and research supervision.
