Executive Certificate in Healthcare Law and Ethics
Programme Highlights
The Executive Certificate in Healthcare Law and Ethics is designed to equip learners with critical thinking and ethical analysis skills so that they can apply bioethical and legal principles to various healthcare issues in practice.
The course comprises of two academic modules: HLE5101 and HLE5102.
HLE5101 – Essentials of Law for Healthcare Professionals (Click for more info)
This module will explore the core legal principles and precedents in healthcare practice. Related ethical issues that arise when reviewing cases will also be discussed. The topics that will be covered include medical negligence, medical errors, patient confidentiality and disclosure, vulnerable adults and children at risk, innovative treatments and telemedicine.
HLE5102 – Clinical Decision-Making: Ethical and Legal Aspects (Click for more info)
This module will explore the core legal and ethical issues in decision-making in healthcare practice. The topics that will be covered include consent, mental capacity, treatment refusal, end of life, role of family in decision-making, limits of parental authority in medical decision-making, lasting powers of attorney, advance directives, advance care planning, and best interests in decision-making.
Who Should Attend
Healthcare professionals, healthcare administrators, and other professionals with an interest in healthcare law & ethics. No experience in law or bioethics is required.
CPE Points
CPE points for doctors, nurses and pharmacists are applied and subjected to approval.
Course Structure
- Learners are required to sign up for both individual modules during the application period.
- Learners must complete both modules to obtain an Executive Certificate in Healthcare Law and Ethics.

Minimum Entry Requirements
- Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and may be required to show relevant work experience.
- Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics.
Mode of Training
The modules will be delivered through synchronous online sessions and asynchronous e-learning.
