Biography

Professor Khong Pek-Lan is the Head of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, NUH. She also helms at the Clinical Imaging Research Centre (CIRC) at NUS Medicine as Director.

She received her medical degree from the National University of Singapore, and her specialist degree from the Royal College of Radiologists, UK (FRCR). She completed a post-graduate Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from the University of Hong Kong. For sub-specialty training, she trained in Paediatric Radiology at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK, the Boston Children’s Hospital, USA, and Hybrid PET-CT in Oncology at the University Hospital Zurich.

Professor Khong’s research interest started with paediatric neuroradiology, in particular, the paediatric applications of diffusion-weighted and diffusion-tensor MR imaging. From 2007, she focused on Oncological Imaging, establishing hybrid-PET and molecular imaging in The University of Hong Kong where she served as the Head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology between 2008-2021. In particular, her research was on paediatric cancers, lymphomas and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Professor Khong’s expertise has led to her being elected to leadership roles of various radiology societies, including Honorary Member of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and Chinese Society of Radiology (CSR), Fellow and Board of Trustees of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS) and President Elect (2024), Executive Board member of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), and past committee member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).
