Only 1 out of every 5 patients doctors see with end-stage liver disease, qualifies for a liver transplant. A new clinical trial led by principal investigator Associate Professor Dan Yock Young, senior consultant at NUH’s division of gastroenterology and hepatology, will explore the use of stem cell treatment to repair liver cirrhosis, or hardening of the liver, and improve liver function. The three-year study will involve 46 patients aged 40 and 70 years old, who are at the terminal stages of chronic liver disease.
