During this session, the participants would learn through hands-on activities how to carry out valid and reliable assessment, followed by effective feedback, and mentoring and coaching in their own workplace settings. They will learn the appropriate use of rating scales, utilised in various assessment tools, to assess competencies in workplace-based settings.

 

At the end of the session, the participant should be able to:

 

• Recognise competencies involved in the performance of a preceptee based on competency guidelines of their training programme

 

• Assign an appropriate rating to each of the competencies within a performance

 

• Provide feedback to the preceptees to improve their performance

 

• Select and apply suitable mentoring and coaching strategies to a given teaching and learning situation
