Aptitude-Based Admissions Scheme (ABAS)

The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine offers admission to a small number of talented and qualified individuals through a route known as the Aptitude-Based Admissions Scheme (ABAS).

ABAS Application Period:

ABAS applications open between January to March annually.

If you have previously attended the admissions assessment, you must submit your portfolio under ABAS.

Why consider ABAS?

The ABAS allows NUS Medicine to exercise discretionary criteria in admitting a small number of students.

Applications submitted through this route will be evaluated by the Selection Committee on the basis of exceptional talent and achievement, in addition to academic results.

How applications are considered under ABAS:

For first-time applicants, your application for admission will first be considered under the standard admissions pathway by the NUS Office of Admissions.

If your University Admissions Score meets the cut-off point for Medicine, you will be shortlisted and invited for the assessment. You will not be considered through the ABAS scheme.

If you do not meet the cut-off point set by the NUS Office of Admissions, your application will be considered under ABAS.

If you have previously attended the admissions assessment:

You must submit your portfolio under ABAS as it will be reviewed for the shortlisting process. Under the Standard Scheme application, a candidate is not granted repeat assessment for Medicine.

Shortlisted applicants

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend the Admissions Assessment in April, together with candidates shortlisted via the Standard Scheme. All candidates from the Standard Scheme and ABAS will be assessed together. Your performance in the assessment will determine the outcome of your offer.

Step 1

Apply through the NUS Office of Admissions portal.

Interested applicants must have indicated Medicine as the first or second choice in their application, to be considered for Medicine.

Submit a portfolio to the NUS Medicine Admissions portal.

Applicants who want to be considered on the basis of exceptional talent and achievement, in addition to academic results or have taken the FSA and/or SJT before, must apply via the Aptitude-Based Admissions Scheme (ABAS) in order to be considered for a second assessment.
