NUHS Pathology Residency Training
The NUHS Pathology Residency training programme is a 5 year training programme in anatomic pathology. The programme aims to provide an organised and structured educational experience for qualified doctors to acquire the basic competence of an anatomic pathologist.
The first three years of training (termed R1, R2 and R3) consists of Core Pathology Training, which prepares a resident for the ABMS exam (or alternatively the FRCPath Part I and/or FRCPA Part I examinations). These three years are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education- International (ACGME-I).
The following two years of training are termed as R4 and R5 (or elective years). These years are a period of specialised consolidated training where the resident is given the option to acquire more experience in general pathology, subspecialty training or pathology related research activity. During this period, the resident who wishes to obtain Fellowship of the RCPath or RCPA may sit for the respective Part II examinations.
