Who We Are

Dr Ang Eng Tat is Senior Lecturer at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, NUS. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience (NUS) and has a background in Physiotherapy. With more than 14 years teaching anatomy, physiology and pedagogy, he is also an Associate Coach who integrates coaching principles into health and education. Dr Ang also enjoys exploring gamified learning and AI approaches in education—bringing a curious, playful spirit to his practice.

Assoc Prof Caroline earned a PhD from Baylor College of Medicine and completed post-doctoral training at the National Cancer Institute (USA). She has extensive experience in AI-enhanced genomics and cancer research. Dedicated to nurturing future scientists, she combines academic rigor with inspiring mentorship. She is known for her supportive guidance and commitment to helping others grow. Outside academia, she enjoys exploring nature walks, which help sharpen reflective skills that bring clarity to her coaching conversations.

Adj. Assoc Prof Liz Ang is a Paediatric Rheumatologist dedicated to improving care for children with rheumatic conditions. Inspired by her own transformative coaching experience in 2020 – which she found interesting, occasionally awkward, yet mostly fun – she trained as an ontological coach to help others thrive with purpose and joy. Beyond her roles as a clinician, teacher, and mentor to medical students and residents, she also enjoys travelling to empower better care for children with rheumatic diseases.

Assoc Prof Elizabeth is a clinician, educator, and researcher in the Department of Otolaryngology. She has a background in Speech & Language Therapy and a PhD in Psychology, and is also qualified as a Newfield Certified Coach. In all her different roles, she is passionate about empowering individuals to enhance their communication and emotional intelligence, guiding them through personal and professional growth with discernment and empathy.

Assoc Prof Goh Poh Sun holds an MBBS (Melb) ’87, FRCR ’93, FAMS ’98 and an MHPE (Maastricht) ’12. He is Senior Consultant in Diagnostic Radiology with a clinical/education focus. He actively contributes to conferences and research on best practices in technology-enhanced learning, focusing on open-access digital repositories for clinical training. Trained as an in-house coach since 2021-22, he uses coaching to support student and faculty development. Outside his work, he enjoys exploring with a lighthearted curiosity and once joked that a curry was named after him!

Assoc Prof Heng has a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology and a PhD in Human Genetics. In addition to his administrative duties as an Assistant Dean of our school’s graduate programme, his research work focuses on cardiovascular genomics and prediction of disease risks using polygenic risk scores. As a coach, he enjoys interacting with young clinicians and researchers to realise their potential. He is also a leisure hiker, using his frequent walks as a chance to reflect and refresh!

Prof Hooi Shing Chuan holds an MBBS from NUS (1983) and a PhD from Harvard University (1992). He has taught physiology for over 30 years, served as Vice-Dean (Education) and was inaugural Chair of the Medical Sciences Cluster. Known for his mentorship and educational scholarship, he remains committed to nurturing students with both heart and mind, supporting their growth professionally and personally. Outside work, he values time with family and activities that restore balance and reflection.

Assoc Prof Inthrani Raja Indran is an educator with the Department of Pharmacology, and Assistant Dean (Students) at NUS Medicine. She is actively involved in fostering student development and resilience through coaching and mentoring, preparing learners to navigate the challenges of medical education and their future careers as healthcare professionals. She also supports the growth of postdoctoral researchers through personal and professional development. Outside work, she enjoys nature and spending time with her plants.

Professor John is a Newfield Certified Coach with over 500 hours of executive, life, leadership and wellness coaching experience. A medical doctor and Professor of Surgery, he brings deep insight into the healthcare and education sectors, where he has held multiple leadership roles. Prof John creates a safe and reflective space for clients to uncover their inner wisdom, fostering transformation, fulfilment, and holistic well-being as they pursue their goals with confidence and purpose.

Prof Kesavan is Senior Consultant in Urology and Surgical Oncology, and his research in immunotherapy underscores a commitment to innovation and holistic wellbeing. He introduced ontological coaching to the School of Medicine, coaching students and staff to become the best version of themselves. He also introduced health and wellness coaching within the hospital setting, coaching patients in sustainable change. He is energised by fostering growth beyond traditional metrics and finds refreshment in the rhythm of community theatre and creative expression outside his medical sphere.

Prof Lim is Director of Hepatology and a Senior Consultant specialising in viral hepatitis and liver disease. His extensive research and clinical leadership have shaped hepatology practice locally. Drawing on decades of high-performance habits, he strives to help others cultivate balance, resilience, and clarity in their professional and personal journeys. Outside of work, he’s energised by global travel and finds inspiration in exploring new perspectives and lifelong learning.

Dr. Liu Haiyan’s research focuses on immune regulation and novel cancer immunotherapies. She is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaching Federation and a Newfield Certified Team Coach (NCTC). She has extensive experience coaching students, researchers, and professionals. Her coaching approach emphasises active listening, open-minded curiosity, and a deep partnership with clients to cultivate awareness, balance, and clarity. Haiyan is also a certified yoga instructor. She enjoys yoga, reading, hiking, and cooking, reflecting her holistic approach to well-being and lifelong learning.

Assoc Prof Marie is an International Coaching Federation Professional Certified Coach with 600+ coaching hours. With a decade as Assistant Dean Student Affairs and 25 years in NUS Medicine’s Biochemistry Department, she combines analytical rigor with genuine empathy. Marie creates psychologically safe environments for judgment-free self-reflection, blending compassion with structure. Drawing from her extensive academic and coaching expertise, her unique approach transforms insights into actionable strategies that align with your core values and aspirations.

Assoc Prof Marion is a seasoned educator and clinician whose mission is to help medical students and professionals grow authentically. Her leadership roles in medical education and clinical service have given her a unique and vital perspective on the challenges facing young doctors and early career healthcare professionals. With her incredible passion for helping people develop their full potential, she is excited to use her coaching skills to help individuals on their own journey of self-discovery, enabling them to find their perfect niche in work and life. Outside her formal roles, Marion finds balance by exercising whilst watching Netflix, baking and catching up with friends over food.

Prof Reshma leads the Department of Physiology. With a rich background in molecular biology and long-standing academic leadership, she now brings her curiosity, clarity and mentorship into a coaching context. She loves helping clients navigate change with confidence and purpose. Outside work, she enjoys yoga, morning walks and exploring diverse genres of music – bringing rhythm and endurance into mind-body alignment.

Dr Satish R. L. is a Senior Lecturer at YLLSoM, where he teaches Anatomy, Clinical Examination Skills, Patient Communication, and Undergraduate Ultrasound to MBBS students. A certified coach through Newfield / YLLSoM, he combines academic excellence with an empathetic and structured approach to mentoring future clinicians. He has completed four marathons, reflecting his belief in the synergy between mental and physical resilience. Beyond academia, Dr Satish enjoys music, dance, and voluntary service, and regularly accompanies students on overseas health camps in Thailand, India, and Indonesia to serve underserved communities.

Prof Shazib Pervaiz brings decades of leadership in education and research to his coaching work. A Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation, he integrates scientific insight with deep empathy to guide clients through transitions, growth and resilience. As a coach partner, he focuses on the role(s) that identity, mindset, and self-regulation play in determining individual behaviour as well as the remarkable transformative power of self-awareness and emotional agility. Prof Pervaiz has also exemplified personal wellbeing and discipline by being a competitive sportsman and a fitness fanatic all his life.

Assoc Prof Sim has been an ontological coach since 2019, supporting the school’s drive to nurture positive development in medical students and academic staff. Through her coaching, coachees have achieved a greater sense of purpose, satisfaction, and happiness in both their professional and personal lives. More importantly, they have developed better communication skills and compassion in their service to others. Assoc Prof Sim also serves as Senior Adviser to the Dean in safety and is currently an Honorary Fellow of the University.

Prof Soong, a distinguished neuroscientist and educator, blends his deep understanding of physiology with a human-centred coaching approach in his coaching practice. With a long tenure guiding teams and mentoring across translational neuroscience and cardiovascular research, he provides clarity and perspective to clients navigating change. In his leisure time, he enjoys painting, music and hiking, using rhythm and terrain as metaphors for alignment and momentum.

Prof Tai is a distinguished clinician-scientist specialising in endocrinology and genomic medicine. For the past decade, he has been interested in understanding what motivates patients to adopt behaviours that are beneficial for their health and well-being. This has required him to understand the role played by providers and health systems in shaping the choices made by patients. His work on large-scale studies and health system transformation has given him a unique perspective into individual journeys within complex environments. On the personal front, he enjoys meeting new people and learning new things from almost any field, while luxuriating in the quiet moments when he can be lost in his own thoughts.

Assoc Prof Thai Tran leads the Lung diseases research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Coaching opened her eyes to new ways of approaching work and life—with greater intention, flexibility, and meaning. Inspired by her own transformation, she now finds deep fulfilment in giving back and helping others discover clarity and growth through coaching. She cherishes time with family, enjoys walks in the park, and values simply being present in the moment.

Assoc Prof Thilo (Dept of Biochemistry) brings his medical-scientific training and teaching excellence into the coaching space. As a long-time running-group coach and researcher focused on ageing and metabolism, he helps clients build endurance, clarity, and a growth mindset. These are skills he brings to his coaching practice when guiding undergraduates in their personal growth journeys. Outside work, he enjoys spending time training for marathons– drawing parallels between physical stamina and personal development.
