Hey there aspiring nurse, we warmly welcome you to join the House of Orem, a place where you will undergo a journey of self-discovery, development and fulfilment, all in good company.
Named after Dorothea Orem, an American nurse whose ‘Self-care Deficit’ nursing theory promotes practices to maintain an individual’s life, health and well-being, Orem House is a place where you can find friends of similar minds and interests with whom you can tough out the nursing pathway, both in and beyond school.

“The transition into a rigorous academic environment, coupled with clinical responsibilities, was initially overwhelming. However, being a mentee under the peer mentoring program has provided me with invaluable guidance, support, and encouragement that significantly shaped my growth as a nursing student. The positive impact my mentor had on my academic journey and emotional well-being has shown me the value of peer support. This program has also allowed me to widen my social circle and not be afraid to make new friends. I am grateful for the support and wisdom my mentor provided!”

“Being a mentor in the peer mentoring program has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Guiding my Year 1 mentees not only helped them build confidence but also strengthened my own understanding of fundamental nursing concepts. Teaching and explaining Year 1 content allowed me to reinforce my knowledge while developing essential mentoring and leadership skills that will be indispensable for my future career in nursing. Seeing my mentees grow and gain confidence in their abilities was truly inspiring. This experience has deepened my passion for nursing education and showed me the impact of peer support in fostering both professional and personal growth.”
