Dr Darryl Ang is concurrently a Senior Tutor at NUS Nursing and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Global Nursing Research Centre, the University of Tokyo. Dr Ang’s teaching, clinical and research interests have centered largely on building human potential and competencies across the lifespan, and development of supportive cancer and palliative care across the illness trajectory. To date, he has conducted and published over 40 primary and secondary research articles using both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Relating to Dr Ang’s work on human potential and competencies, he has focused on building and enhancing non-cognitive skills, with a special interest in resilience among varied populations. His PhD focused on the development and evaluation of a Resilience Skills Enhancement (RISE) program for undergraduate students. Dr Ang’s resilience work have been translated into the formal nursing curriculum through research and practice readiness programs such as the Supporting Transition to Clinical Nursing Education (STRONG) and Interactive Mental Wellness (I-AM-WELL) program.

At present, Dr Ang is working on incorporating resilience into the delivery of supportive psychosocial cancer and palliative care. Using a population health approach, he is currently conducting several projects focusing on using death cafés to stimulate death literacy and advance care planning among healthy community dwelling adults.

As an advocate of evidence implementation, Dr Ang also has conducted several evidence translation projects to enhance the care of patients with cancer and was awarded the National University Health System Prestige Award (Quality Improvement and Patient Experience) Recognition Award. As an educator, Dr Ang contributes to various courses within the undergraduate nursing curriculum such as palliative and end-of-life care, research and evidence-based practice, and clinical simulation. As a thesis advisor, he has guided his honours students to publish in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.

Internationally, Dr Ang contributes to the wider community as a board member and secretary of the Asian Oncology Nursing Society. He is also the Associate Editor of JBI Evidence Implementation journal, and an editorial board member of BMC Nursing, Frontiers in Public Health, and Frontiers in Psychiatry.
