Professor Wang Wenru is a highly accomplished academic and clinician with over 30 years of experience in clinical nursing practice, university teaching, and research. She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at leading universities across Asia and is widely recognised for excellence in teaching. Professor Wang has supervised more than 100 research students at the Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral levels, and has served extensively as both an internal and external examiner for PhD candidates. Her commitment to high-quality education and mentorship has been recognised through the NUS Teaching Excellence Award (AY2018/2019 and AY2020/2021) and the Graduate Mentor of the Year (GRAMMY) Award in 2024.
Professor Wang’s research focuses on chronic illness and long-term care, with particular emphasis on cardiovascular health, cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes management, and active ageing. Her work frequently involves complex psychosocial and behavioural interventions, leveraging innovative digital health approaches such as mHealth, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence to support health promotion and secondary prevention. As Principal Investigator, she has secured more than 30 competitive external research grants, totalling nearly SGD 10 million, and has published close to 300 peer-reviewed papers in leading international medical and nursing journals. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to nursing research, she was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2020, inducted into Sigma’s International Nurse Researchers Hall of Fame in 2023, and elected as an International Fellow of the American Heart Association in 2025.
In addition to her research and scholarly activities, Professor Wang plays a significant leadership role in nursing education and professional service. She currently serves as Director of the MSc (Nursing) and PhD Programmes and Chair of the Chronic Illness and Long-Term Care Research Programme at NUS Nursing. She is an Ambassador of the World Federation of Critical Care Nurses and a member of the Heart Wellness Centre Committee in Singapore. She also serves as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and as an Editorial Board member for several leading international nursing journals.
