Course Synopsis & Aims
NUR2500 Applied Pathophysiology and Clinical Pharmacology This course will focus on developing knowledge in both pathophysiology and pharmacology relevant for nursing practice. Learners will gain an understanding of the aetiology pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and management of some major disease states or disturbances in homeostasis. Learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of drugs used to treat disorders addressed within this course.
NUR2501 Clinical Health Assessment and Reasoning

This course aims to develop learner’s history taking, physical examination and clinical decision-making skills. There are both academic and clinical aspects in the course which allow the learners to develop clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills.

The course will enable learners to develop their knowledge and skills in order to make safe and effective clinical judgements.

NUR2502 Healthcare Policy

This course aims to provide learners with in-depth knowledge of the relationship between healthcare policies, health economics and health systems in Singapore.

Learners will be able to analyse and understand social, economic and political contexts of health policies and develop a critical appreciation of healthcare policies and health systems.

NUR2503 Global and Community Health This course introduces learners to the challenges of community health from a global perspective, providing a platform for education and research about health challenges facing the community.
NUR3500 Practice of Palliative and End-of-Life Care This course aims to introduce learners to the philosophy of principles of palliative and end-of-life care. It will equip the learners with skills needed to provide holistic care to patients requiring palliative and end-of-life care and families.
NUR3501 Professionalism, Ethics and Law in Healthcare

This course aims to enhance the learner’s awareness surrounding accountability, liability and professionalism in clinical practice. Learners will explore ethical and legal structures in the local context and develop in-depth understanding of the role of the nurse and their professional duty of care.

This course will prepare learners to practice according to current legal and professional standards. Learners will also be equipped with skills necessary to carry out academic writing and presentation.

NUR3502 Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice

This course aims to prepare the learner to assume the role as an educator in clinical practice. Learners will be introduced to the principles of teaching and learning and a range of teaching, learning and assessment methods relevant to their practice.

The course focuses on the development of the learner’s competence, confidence and reflective abilities, capable of evaluating and developing teaching and learning in clinical practice.

NUR3503 Leadership, Innovation and Change in Healthcare

This course aims to enable learners to evaluate, examine and critically reflect on leadership knowledge and apply capabilities to leading innovation and change in the healthcare setting.

Learners will explore related quality and patient safety issues and align the role of the nurse to develop competencies to meet the needs of the continually changing workplace environment.

NUR3504 Chronic Disease Management

This course aims to advance students’ understanding of chronic disease management. Students will explore integrated disease models of care including the need for inter-professional collaboration.

Emphasis will be placed on promoting and supporting behavioural changes as well as application of principles of self-management of chronic diseases.

NUR3505 Research Methodology and Statistics This course is designed to build on and enhance learner’s skills and knowledge on research methodology and statistics. The course aims to advance the learner’s research-mindedness by developing skills required to continually improve practice through research.
NUR3506 Translation of Evidence into Practice

This course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills of translating evidence into practice to achieve better patient outcomes.

Learners will have the opportunity to develop an evidence-base workplace proposal under the supervision of a mentor.

NUR3507 Clinical Practice Development Project

This course aims to provide a framework for learners to specialize in an area of study and engage in a research, quality or evidence-base work-based project.

In this course, the learners will design, develop and implement a work-based project that demonstrates practice development. Learners are required to draw on their clinical experiences, theoretical knowledge and research skills gained through the programme to conduct a work-based project.

The courses are pre-assigned to all students in each semester.

All courses are compulsory in Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice). Therefore exemptions from any courses will not be provided in this instance.
