Graduate Certificate in Child & Family Health in the Community

Programmes

Application

Application for courses starting in AY2026/2027 Semester 1, August 2026 will open from May to June 2026.

Programme Overview

The GCCFH aims to upskill the competency of Registered Nurses, Allied Health, Social and Education professionals in alignment with the Ministry of Health (MOH) strategic direction to provide holistic and comprehensive support to women and their children to attain good health and well-being.

This programme addresses the interactions among social, cultural, educational and health services factors that influence the health of populations of women, children, and families.

This programme is offered on a part-time mode and adopts a stackable courses approach which consists of Certificates that will stack up towards a Graduate Certificate. The normal and maximum candidature is one and three years respectively for the full programme.

Our faculty-led virtual education will be delivered “live” online in an interactive and engaging style with group discussions and practical exercises. Students are required to do pre-reading and participate actively in the discussion during the e-tutorials.

Aims of Programme

The programme aims to broaden the key learning constructs and deepen and advance a healthcare professional’s skills in child and family health management in the community.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  • describe determinants of health and life course theory in influencing population health;
  • illustrate the purpose, rationale, activities, and performance measures for promoting care to women, children, and their families;
  • apply evidence-based practice to primary care within the scope of the CFH services; and
  • critically analyse and apply the principles of primary health care to promote and maintain wellbeing for children, women, and their families.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of 4 courses, offered over 2 semesters. The structure allows for flexibility and recognition of learning at each stage:
  1. Completion of All 4 Courses:
    • Upon successful completion of all 4 courses with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (cumulative across all courses), students will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Child & Family Health in the Community.
  2. Partial Completion (Exit Before All 4 Courses Completed):
    • If a student exits the programme before completing all 4 courses, they will be awarded a Certificate of Competency for each course they have successfully completed, provided they achieve a minimum GPA of 2.50 for that course.
  3. Stacking Towards Certification:
    • Each course completed with the required GPA contributes toward the overall Graduate Certificate.
    • Students who initially exit early but later return to complete the remaining courses (within the specified maximum candidature period) can stack previously earned Certificates of Competency towards the Graduate Certificate, as long as the cumulative GPA requirement is met.

    Please see below how these 4 courses are stackable for attainment of graduate certification:
