A telesimulation to foster academic-clinical collaboration.
Telesimulation using tele-communication and simulation resources was adapted to enable clinical nurses and academic educators to come together to participate in joint simulation activities and to prepare the students for their transition to practice. The telesimulation employed an experiential learning approach with role play of scenarios in avatar-based virtual platform followed by debriefing via Zoom video conferencing. Both academic educator and practice nurses collaborated with each other to debrief their simulation performance and provide feedback.
The telesimulation was demonstrated to be effective and feasible to improve preceptors’ roles in supporting clinical teaching and learning.1It can build academic-practice collaboration by enabling students and academic educators to build rapport with clinical preceptors, and learn from each other practices, which was found to benefit students’ clinical learning experiences.2
