Team Medicine scores!

After losing the Tan Chorh Chuan Challenge trophy to the Faculty of Engineering by 9 points last year, team Medicine bravely accepted the challenge and began their 2013 IFG journey with only one goal in mind – to bring the trophy back home to MD6.

Every event saw an overwhelming response from enthusiastic students with the burning desire to don the Medicine jersey and represent our faculty in the games. With that, Team Medicine was ready to enter the battlefield.

Our faculty kicked off the IFG season well, finishing the first week with 6 victories and 1 draw. This hot streak continued on in the subsequent weeks as we clinched the first gold of the games in the Road Relay and many of our other teams saw victory and earned a place among the top 3 positions. With the never-ending determination and drive of each player, team Medicine was able surpass the other faculties and take an early lead in IFG.

However, team Engineering proved to be a formidable opponent as they slowly closed the gap between our 1st and their 2nd place. As the games drew near to an end, Engineering was just a few points behind us with 3 games remaining, whilst we only had 1 final game – the men’s floorball finals against Science.

Despite the mounting pressure, our floorball men put up a valiant display and played like they were already champions. The sheer number of supporters present at that final game highlighted the camaraderie amongst all of us in the Medicine family and showcased our true heart and pride we have for our faculty. Although we did not emerge as victors of floorball, our team still finished strongly in 2nd place.

In the end, through all the blood, sweat and tears, team Medicine was crowned overall IFG champions. With 6 gold medals in our pocket, we exhibited our fighting spirit and proved that defeat and retreat were not part of our vocabulary. Our teams always endeavored the prestige, honour and respect of our faculty and have left a legacy for players to carry on next year.

Great moments are born from great opportunity and that is what we had with this season of IFG, an opportunity to show everyone who we are – a strong force to be reckoned with both on and off the field. It is without a doubt that we can all hold our heads up high and proudly call ourselves team Medicine.
